Neptune Beach was officially incorporated as its own municipality after seceding from Jacksonville Beach in 1931. The city was named after a train station built by Dan Wheeler, one of its earliest residents. Wheeler built the station right next to his home so he could avoid walking to Mayport where he took the train to his workplace in Jacksonville.
Today, Neptune Beach is known for its scenic beach town atmosphere and quiet, laid-back environment. The city is very pedestrian-friendly – residents get easy access to the beach, along with a wide array of boutiques, restaurants, and fitness centers. This is a city that overflows with natural beauty, where fresh ocean breezes greet you every morning and gorgeous sunsets transition into starry evening skies.
