Atlantic Beach was originally incorporated as a town in 1926, and was officially made into a city in 1957, after a new charter was adopted. The construction of both the Mayport Naval Station and the Matthews Bridge largely contributed to the town’s development. The city’s boundaries were later on extended in 1987, after the annexation of Seminole Beach, and again when its western borders were extended to the Intracoastal Waterway in 1996.
Today, Atlantic Beach is a city which boasts a picturesque environment and a laid-back small town atmosphere. Its residents have plenty to enjoy and look forward to, thanks to the city’s scenic white sand beaches, fun community events, outstanding recreational venues, and top-notch shopping, dining, and entertainment destinations.
